There's a Tutor for Everyone
A Tutor is first and foremost a person who has a passion for teaching and learning and an interest and commitment to supporting others in their learning. Tutoring is not limited to assisting with homework, but includes a whole variety of valuable skills and subjects ranging from photography to music, physical fitness, meditation, and Japanese language, for example, and is for students of all ages from early childhood, primary, secondary and adult education. Regardless of the age and subject matter they teach, Tutors must have good interpersonal skills, be organised, show confidence and demonstrate enthusiasm for sharing their knowledge and experience with others. Tutors need to be patient and realise that students are individuals and not all of them will grasp new material and concepts effortlessly. Tutors, therefore, need to be empathetic and able to adjust their pace and find the approach that works best with individual students. An effective Tutor has to also be a good observer, able to identify the challenges encountered by their students and able to adapt their teaching methods to align with the personality and learning needs of their students.
